Somatic Based Therapy
Somatic Based Therapy as an adjunct to psychotherapy in Alpharetta, Ga
Virtually serving Greater Georgia, South Carolina & Florida.
Somatic-based therapy is a holistic, body-centered approach to healing that focuses on the powerful connection between the mind and body. In my Alpharetta practice, as well as through virtual therapy sessions across Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, I help clients move beyond traditional talk therapy by developing awareness of physical sensations—such as muscle tension, breathing patterns, posture, and internal cues—to better process stress, trauma, and emotional experiences.
This approach is based on the understanding that difficult or overwhelming experiences are not only held in the mind, but can also be stored in the body. When the nervous system becomes dysregulated due to trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, or substance use, the body can remain stuck in survival responses like fight, flight, or freeze. Somatic-based therapy gently supports the release of these patterns by increasing body awareness and restoring a sense of safety.
As a 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-500), I integrate somatic therapy with mindfulness-based practices to support deeper healing. When appropriate, sessions may include grounding techniques, breathwork, guided imagery, and gentle, trauma-informed movement. These tools help regulate the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and support emotional balance—all within a safe, supportive therapeutic space.
Every session is tailored to your individual needs and comfort level. There is no expectation of physical performance—only an invitation to become more present in your body and connected to your experience. This client-centered approach allows you to build awareness, strengthen coping skills, and develop a greater sense of control and resilience.
Somatic-based therapy can be especially helpful for individuals struggling with anxiety, trauma, PTSD, chronic stress, or addiction and recovery challenges. Whether you are seeking in-person therapy in Alpharetta or virtual therapy in Georgia, Florida, or South Carolina, this approach can help you release stored tension, improve emotional regulation, and create lasting change.
The goal of this work is not just symptom relief, but deeper healing—helping you feel more grounded, safe, and at home in your body.
